The Greater Valley Emergency Medical Service, Inc., organized and consisting of Greater Valley Ambulance, Greater Valley Rescue and Greater Valley Drive Team, existing in the Borough of Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, and hereafter known as the "ambulance service" is hereby designated as the officially recognized ambulance service for Athens Township.
A. 
The ambulance service recognized by the Athens Township is hereby authorized to provide such services to the Athens Township as may be necessary for the protection of property and persons therein, which includes, by way of example and not of limitation, the transportation of persons to and from medical facilities and residences, the extrication of persons from hazardous situations of entrapment, automobile accidents, medial emergencies, hazardous materials incidents up to an operations level or other situations.
B. 
The ambulance service may also provide nonemergency and public service functions, such as, again by way of example and not of limitation, standbys at public and private events such as football games, community events, marathons and assisting in removal, abatement and prevention of damage or injury to persons or property, whether through natural causes or man-made situations.
C. 
The ambulance service may also conduct and participate in such training activities and drills, either in or outside of the Athens Township, as may be deemed necessary by the officers of the Department to maintain proficiency in providing service.
D. 
The ambulance service may also respond to calls and provide services to municipalities outside of the Athens Township pursuant to mutual aid agreements, licensure agreements or legislative requirements.
In addition to actually participating in the activities of the ambulance service as authorized above, or in going to or returning from any activity, the members of the ambulance service recognized by the Athens Township are also authorized to do the following:
A. 
Engage in any type of drill, training, ceremony, contest, practice, test, parade, public education or inspection when duly called for or authorized by an officer or officers of the ambulance service.
B. 
Engage in fund-raising activities for the ambulance service, when authorized by an officer or officers of the ambulance service.
C. 
Engage in the performance of any other duty or activity authorized by an officer of the recognized ambulance service.
The purpose of this chapter is to recognize the Greater Valley Emergency Medical Services, Inc., as the official ambulance service members for workmen's compensation purposes.
