The Public Safety Director shall appoint as
many school crossing guards, also known as "traffic guards," as the
Director shall deem necessary.
The salary of the school crossing guards shall
be as provided by ordinance, in addition to which a uniform shall
be supplied.
In order to be eligible for appointment, the
prospective school crossing guards shall possess the following qualifications:
A. Be not less than eighteen (18) years of age.
B. Be a resident of the city.
C. Be of good moral character.
D. Be a citizen of the United States.
E. Be at least five (5) feet two (2) inches in height,
and weight to be in accord with that fixed by medical standards.
F. Be in good health and sound in body and mind.
G. Certification by the City Physician or the Assistant
City Physician as being physically capable of performing the duties
required of them.
School crossing guards shall be governed by
all the rules and regulations laid down for the guidance of the Police
Division members insofar as such rules and regulations are applicable
and consistent with the special class of duty prescribed for school
crossing guards. In addition, school crossing guards shall comply
with all other rules and regulations adopted for school crossing guards
by the Public Safety Director.
School crossing guards shall serve at the pleasure
of the Public Safety Director. The Director may summarily dismiss
any member of the school crossing guards for any reason deemed sufficient
by the Public Safety Director.
