94-14 and
94-15 of this article shall apply to all new buildings, structures and uses and to any existing structure which is found by the Fire Code Official to be dangerous or hazardous or which has sustained damages in excess of 50% of its present replacement cost or involving more than 50% of the dwelling units in the structure.
As a minimum, complete coverage with an automatic fire alarm
shall be provided in the following buildings:
A. All apartments, rooming houses, hotels, motels and multiple-family
dwellings containing three or more dwelling units.
B. All churches or nonprofit institutions, and commercial, industrial
or public buildings which are 5,000 or more total square feet in area,
or which can reasonably accommodate 100 or more persons.
C. All educational facilities that are used to gather six or more persons
for the purpose of instruction at least four times per week.
As a minimum, complete coverage with an automatic sprinkler
system shall be provided in the following buildings:
A. All apartment houses, rooming houses, hotels, motels and multiple-family
dwellings containing 10 or more dwelling units.
B. All schools, nursing homes, old-age facilities, hospitals, sanatoriums
and movie theaters.
C. All commercial, industrial or public buildings which are more than
35 feet high or which can reasonably accommodate 200 or more persons
or which are 10,000 square feet or more in size.
D. Automobile showrooms, refueling stations or garages of more than
2,500 square feet total floor area.
E. Any building, regardless of size or height, which, in the opinion
of the Fire Code Official, contains unusually severe fire hazards,
including but not limited to spray finishing booths, dust-collecting
silos and liquid fuel storage areas.
When automatic sprinkler systems are required by this code,
a standard fire hydrant with the Fire Department's usual connections
shall be provided within 50 feet of all Fire Department standpipe
sprinkler feed connections. Hydrants shall be fed by a minimum six-inch
water main.
Direct line connection shall be mandatory for all schools, educational
facilities, hospitals, nursing homes, sanatoriums, old-age facilities
and all buildings more than 35 feet tall.
