GENERAL REFERENCES
Elected officials — See Ch. 50, Art. I.
Persons who are seeking to be married or joined in a civil union ceremony by the Mayor (or designee as permitted by law) of the Borough of Bergenfield shall pay to the Borough of Bergenfield a fee of:
A. 
One hundred dollars if the marriage/civil union ceremony is conducted within the geographic boundaries of the Borough of Bergenfield and occurs any time between Monday through and including Friday;
B. 
One hundred twenty-five dollars if the marriage/civil union ceremony is conducted within the geographic boundaries of the Borough and occurs any time on Saturday and/or Sunday;
C. 
One hundred fifty dollars if the marriage/civil union ceremony is conducted outside the geographic boundaries of the Borough of Bergenfield on any day.
A. 
Establishment of policy. There is hereby established by and within the Borough of Bergenfield provisions creating policies and procedures concerning the payment of and/or reimbursement of expenses incurred by the Mayor (or designee as permitted by law) in connection with the performance of wedding and civil union ceremonies.
B. 
Prior approval required. The Mayor (or designee as permitted by law) of the Borough of Bergenfield shall not be reimbursed for any expenses and/or expenditures in connection with performing a wedding or civil ceremony unless such expenses and/or expenditures have been approved by the Borough Council before the wedding or civil ceremony takes place.
C. 
Eligible persons. The Borough shall reimburse only proper and reasonable expenses and/or expenditures incurred directly by and for the Mayor (or designee as permitted by law). Under no circumstances shall the Borough reimburse expenses and/or expenditures on behalf of or as a result of any spouse, child, guest and/or other person.
D. 
Limitation on expenses and/or expenditures. The Borough shall be obligated to reimburse only those expenses and/or expenditures which are reasonable in nature, as determined by the Borough Council, and related to the purpose of officiating at the wedding or civil union ceremony.
E. 
Car allowance. The Borough shall reimburse for automobile-related expenses where the Mayor (or designee as permitted by law) uses his or her own automobile in order to attend the wedding or civil union ceremony and only in such circumstances where the use of a personal automobile is reasonable and appropriate. Said reimbursement shall be limited to automobile expenses based on and calculated as to the miles to and from the wedding or civil union ceremony at such rate per mile as allowable by the Internal Revenue Service regulations.
F. 
Other expenses. The Borough may reimburse other expenses and/or expenditures based upon whether the same are reasonable in nature and related to and necessary for the Mayor's (or designee as permitted by law) attendance at the wedding or civil union ceremony.
G. 
Procedures for approvals. Before incurring any expenses and/or expenditures in connection with officiating at a wedding or civil union ceremony, the Mayor (or designee as permitted by law) shall first submit and have approved a proper requisition form, as determined by the Chief Financial Officer, setting forth the maximum estimate of all expenditures and/or expenses to be reimbursed by the Borough. The amounts set forth in the requisition form shall be the maximum amounts which the Borough is obligated to reimburse.
