Use of the landfill will be restricted to refuse from Groton residences,
churches, municipal buildings, public schools and municipal events.
Residents driving vehicles with a valid landfill sticker will be permitted to dispose of refuse at the landfill. The Town may require further proof of residency such as a driver's license or automobile registration. These items shall be presented, upon request, to landfill personnel. In addition, residents who contract for curbside pickup and present their most recent bill to landfill personnel may enter the landfill to dispose of household refuse or bulk items under §
251-5 below.
The landfill will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m.
to 4:00 p.m. The landfill will be closed on municipal holidays.
Annual fees for stickers effective immediately through June 30, 1988,
shall be as follows:
A. Private passenger car, van or pickup: $30.
B. Above vehicles registered to senior citizen (over 60
years old): $10.
C. Additional sticker same household (one only): $5.
D. Replacement sticker (must present old sticker): $1.
E. Commercial haulers of Groton residential trash: free, plus load capacity charge in §
251-5 below.
The following items will not be accepted at the landfill: exhaust systems;
gas tanks or cans; fifty-five-gallon drums; automobiles; autobody parts; engine
blocks; car seats or batteries; lead- or oil-based paint; asphalt; antifreeze
or radiator flushes; engine cleaners; motor oil; pesticides; wood stain; varnish;
oils; wood preservatives or putty; paint strippers; thinners; turpentine;
alcohol; degreasers; nail polish/remover; metal polish; water/rustproofers;
car wax; pesticides, including no-pest strips, flea powder, flea collars and
mothballs; weed killers and fungicides; oven cleaners; drain cleaners; rug
cleaners; septic tank or tile/toilet cleaners; floor cleaners or polish; spot
removers; upholstery cleaners; furniture polish; ammonia; bleach; dyes; glazes;
ink; chemistry sets; roofing tar; outdated medicine; and similar materials.
(These materials should be held for disposal at the Town's annual hazardous
waste collection day, which is operated by the Board of Health.)
