There is hereby established an Historic Committee for the Borough of Oradell to be known as the "Historic Committee of the Borough of Oradell."
The purpose of the Historic Committee is to recognize, catalog and preserve people, places, objects and events of historic interest to the Borough of Oradell and to provide an historic context within which the Borough may conduct its affairs.
A. 
The Historic Committee shall consist of up to, but not exceeding, 15 members, who shall be residents of the Borough of Oradell. The members of the Historic Committee shall be appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the Borough Council for terms of one year, to serve without salary.

B. 
Any vacancy occurring for any reason shall be filled for the unexpired term by appointment of the Mayor.
C. 
The Historic Committee shall organize annually and from its members elect a Chair.
The duties of the Historic Committee shall be as follows:
A. 
To conduct historical research and provide advice to the Mayor and Council regarding historical matters that pertain to the Borough.
B. 
To explore ways to assess the preservation of historic structures within the Borough.
C. 
To obtain and transcribe oral histories from long-time Borough residents and make them available through the Oradell Public Library and other appropriate venues for use in teaching and general interest.
D. 
To participate in projects, events, celebrations, etc., to honor Borough residents and/or veterans who have served their country during past and current wars.
The Historic Committee shall keep complete and accurate records of its meetings and activities and shall make an annual report to the Mayor and Council.
