[Ord. No. 08-08, adopted 8-21-2008, consolidated
the duties of the Environmental Committee and provided that the existing
duties and responsibilities of the Environmental Committee shall be
assumed by the Board of Health. Former Ch. 18, Environmental Committee,
adopted 2-5-2004 by Ord. No. 04-03, included the following powers
and duties:
"The Environmental Committee shall have the following duties
and functions:
A. Perform the duties and responsibilities
previously undertaken by the Shade Tree Commission and the Air Pollution
Control Board.
B. Conduct research into the use and possible
use of the open land areas of the municipality and may coordinate
the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes.
C. Advertise, prepare, print and distribute
hooks, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets which in its judgment it
deems necessary for its purposes.
D. Keep an index of all open areas, publicly
or privately owned, including open marshlands, swamps and other wetlands,
in order to obtain information on the proper use of such areas.
E. Recommend to the Mayor and governing
body plans and programs for inclusion in the Municipal Master Plan
for the development and use of such areas.
F. Study and make recommendations concerning
open space preservation, water resources management, air pollution
control, solid waste management, noise control, soil and landscape
protection, environmental appearance, marine resources and protection
of flora and fauna.
G. Enforce health code, property maintenance
and other applicable ordinances and issue summons for violations thereof
to the extent permitted by law.
H. Such other duties and responsibilities
as may be assigned to it by the Mayor and governing body from time
to time."]
