The purpose of this article is to reduce the number of Assessors in the Town of Hague from three elected Assessors to a single appointed Assessor pursuant to § 328 of the Real Property Tax Law.
From and after January 1, 1991, there shall be but one Assessor in the Town of Hague to be appointed in accordance with § 310 of the Real Property Tax Law.
This article shall be subject to a mandatory referendum in the manner prescribed in § 23 of the Municipal Home Rule Law.[1]

A Board of Assessment Review is hereby created to consist of five members whose terms of office shall be for a period of five years.
A. 
The Chairman of the Board shall be appointed by the Supervisor and shall serve as Chairman during the term of his appointment. In the event of a vacancy in the office of Chairman, and the Supervisor shall fail to appoint the Chairman within 30 days of said vacancy, the Board shall elect one of its members to serve as Chairman during the term of his appointment.
B. 
In the event that there shall be a vacancy in the Board for any reason whatever, then the member of the Town Board having authority to make the appointment shall appoint another person to serve for the unexpired term of office.
The Board shall hear and determine complaints in relation to assessments and shall have all the powers and duties imposed by law on Boards of Review by virtue of the provisions of § 512 of the Real Property Tax Law and by any other law.
The Chairman and members of the Board shall be paid for their respective services, and their compensation is to be fixed at a later date.
