Pursuant to the provisions of N.J.S.A. 40A:9-140, there is hereby established
in and for the Township of Independence the position of Municipal Engineer.
The Municipal Engineer shall perform such duties as are prescribed by
ordinance and general law and in addition:
A. Prepare or cause to be prepared, specifically as directed
by the Township Committee, plans, designs and specifications for public works
and improvements undertaken by the Township, either by account or by public
contract.
B. Provide and maintain surveys, maps, plans, specifications,
tax maps and control records with respect to public works and facilities owned
or operated by the Township.
C. Provide technical and engineering advice and assistance
to other Township officers as needed.
D. Attend all regular meetings of the Township Committee
and such additional meetings as directed or requested by the Committee.
E. Perform such other duties as are now or hereafter imposed
by statute, regulation or by municipal ordinance or regulation.
The term of the office of Municipal Engineer shall be for a period of
one year to commence on January 1 of the year in which the appointment is
made.
The Municipal Engineer shall receive such compensation on a fee basis
as authorized by the Township Committee. All invoices for engineering services
shall be subject to Committee approval.
Nothing in this article shall inhibit the powers of the Township Committee to appoint or contract for any engineering services or consultants in performance of any of the duties of the Municipal Engineer as set forth in §
51-11.
