This chapter shall provide for the promotion and protection of health, safety and welfare of the people of the Village of Weedsport by prohibiting the discharge of weapons within the Village of Weedsport.
This chapter shall repeal Local Law No. 3 of the year 2000 entitled "Weapons."[1]

The discharge of any weapon within the limits of the Village of Weedsport is hereby prohibited. Weapons shall include firearms, handguns, revolvers, pistols, rifles, shotguns, antique firearms, machine guns, cannons, air guns, spring guns, electronic darts, electronic stun guns, bows, longbows, crossbows and slingshots, which discharge a bullet, cartridge, shell, shot, arrow, bolt or other missile propelled by the burning or explosion of gunpowder, by high pressure from pumping or other means, by a spring which is set by a cocking operation or by application and release of tension or pressure to a bow string attached to such weapon.
Excepted from the provisions of this chapter shall be the following:
A. 
Members of any federal, state, county, or local law enforcement bureau, agency or department when acting within the normal and customary scope of their official duties.
B. 
Programs conducted by public schools offering instruction and training in the use of firearms or archery equipment.
C. 
A target range operated by a local, county, state or federal police agency.
D. 
A member or guest of a gun or archery club engaged in any shooting upon such gun or archery club premises which, except for this article, is permitted by law.
E. 
During a memorial service or veterans funeral.
F. 
The lawful use of a weapon in defense of person or property.
Any person or entity violating any of the provisions of this chapter shall be guilty of a violation which shall be punishable as provided in Chapter 1, General Provisions, Article I, General Penalty, of the Code of the Village of Weedsport.
