GENERAL REFERENCES
Celebration Committee — See Ch. 3.
A. 
There shall be a Veterans Recognition Commission composed of five full time members and two alternates, who shall be Tolland residents, legal voters of the Town, and:
(1) 
Are serving or have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, as defined in 10 U.S. Code § 101; or
(2) 
Are or were active-duty Reserves, or nationalized Connecticut National Guard or Air National Guard; or
(3) 
Were members of the U.S. Merchant Marine activated during time of war as set forth in 46 U.S.C. § 11202.
B. 
These members shall be appointed by a majority vote of the Town Council to serve as an advisory commission to the Town Council on matters related to veterans’ recognition and issues of proper protocol. All Commission members shall serve without compensation.
A. 
The Veterans Recognition Commission shall consist of five full time members and two alternates, who meet the requirements as set forth above.
B. 
The Town Council shall appoint all members and shall fill any vacancies which may occur.
C. 
The terms of all members shall commence upon appointment. All members shall be appointed to three-year terms.
The purpose of the Commission shall be to recognize, honor and memorialize those citizens of Tolland who have served or are serving in the military.
The duties of the Commission shall be:
A. 
To prepare an appropriate listing of Tolland residents who are currently serving in the armed forces to be displayed in the Town Hall.
B. 
To work in conjunction with the Town Clerk to create and maintain an Honor Roll for display in the Town Hall of those Tolland residents who have served in past conflicts, and to recommend to the Town Council the appropriate means for commemorating individuals, including but not limited to the commissioning of suitable memorial structures.
C. 
To develop appropriate honor or memorial protocols for individuals from the Town returning from active service in the armed forces.
D. 
To serve in an advisory capacity to the Permanent Celebration Committee[1] when appropriate.
