A Permanent Celebration Committee is hereby established, consisting
of not fewer than five nor more than seven members, all of whom shall be residents
of the Town of Tolland, to be appointed by the Town Council as follows: The
members of the Committee shall be appointed for terms of three years, except
that initially two of the members shall be appointed for two-year terms and
one member shall be appointed for a one-year term. All subsequent appointments
shall be for terms of three years.
The purpose of the Committee shall be to recognize, accommodate and
foster pride and patriotism among the citizens of Tolland in our nation, our
state and our Town and to demonstrate evidence thereof through the development
and conduct of programs and activities as hereinafter described.
The duties of the Committee shall be to study and develop plans for
programs and activities related to national and state holidays and Town celebrations,
including the commemoration of and/or honoring of the nation, state and/or
Town, the history and culture thereof, military and other units and citizens
and/or officials thereof, and to make recommendations for the same to the
Town Council and, upon approval by the Town Council, to plan, arrange, supervise
and conduct such programs and activities. The Committee may appoint advisers
to assist it in the fulfillment of its duties and purpose as it deems appropriate.
This chapter is not intended to retain exclusive right to Town celebrations
to the Permanent Celebration Committee.
