The Department shall determine the type and size of the meter to be installed. All premises must be separately metered.
Submetering shall be permitted only with the approval of the Department.
Services provided with meters larger than one inch may require a sealed bypass and test tee.
Seasonal meters may be removed by the Department or its agent at the time service is shut off, tested, stored and replaced in the spring. A nominal charge for this service will be made.
Meters will be owned, installed, maintained and removed by the Department. Damage due to freezing, hot water, faulty connections or customers' negligence shall be paid for by the customer.
No person, other than a Department employee or its agent, shall break seals, tamper or disconnect meters. If any person takes such action without authorization from the Department, he/she will be liable for any damages which may result therefrom and shall be billed on the basis of water used in a similar period.
A.
The customer will provide at his expense an accessible and protected location for the meter, which location shall be subject to the approval of the Department at the time of service pipe installation. The meter shall be located inside a building wherever possible.
B.
When no suitable place inside the building is available, or the service pipe exceeds 150 feet in length, the Department may require that the meter be set near the street shutoff, with a suitable valve in a pit at least five feet deep, with a cover. The pit and cover shall be owned, installed and maintained by the customer. Pit construction and location shall be approved by the Department.
A.
The customer is responsible for maintaining piping on either side of the meter in good condition and valves on both sides of meter as per Town standards so that the meter may be removed or replaced conveniently and without impairing such piping. If a leak should develop subsequent to meter removal or replacement due to poor condition of the piping, the customer shall be responsible for any necessary repairs.
B.
The Department can assume no responsibility for the clogging of interior house plumbing which may occur during or after repairs to services, meters or mains.
Swimming pools or other facilities which might require considerable quantities of water may be required to be separately metered and to have separate services. Customers are not permitted to fill pools with water directly from hydrants.
The customer is requested to notify the Department promptly of any defect in or damage to the meter or its connections.
A.
In order to assure accuracy, the Department may at any time remove a meter for tests, repairs or replacement.
B.
The Department will, upon written request by a customer and, if he so desires, in his presence, make, without charge, a test of the accuracy of the meter in use at his premises, provided that the meter has not been tested by the Department within the period of three years previous to such request. A written report of the results of the test shall be furnished the customer.
