Exempt permanent signs. The following signs, not self-illuminated,
may be placed in any district without a permit:
(1)
Street identification, traffic and other governmental
signs and control devices required by law, ordinance or regulation.
(2)
Public information signs.
(3)
Entrance/exit and directional signs.
(4)
House and building numbers.
(5)
Memorial signs, building names, erection dates and
similar information cut into masonry or other permanent surfaces or
constructed of bronze or other incombustible material.
(6)
Signs and markers in cemeteries designating graves,
etc.
B.
Exempt temporary signs. The following signs, not illuminated
unless otherwise specified, may be placed in any district without
a permit:
(1)
Emergency or safety signs illuminated as required,
as approved by the Board of Trustees or other appropriate agencies.
(2)
Directional signs for meetings, conventions and other
assemblies.
(3)
One sign for each realtor or homeowner advertising
the sale or rental of the land or building on which it is located,
limited to 30 days after sale or rental.
(4)
One sign listing the architect, engineer, contractor
and/or owner, on premises where construction, renovation or repair
is in progress, until the structure is occupied for its intended use.
C.
Flags, emblems or insignia of a nation, government
or school may be displayed in any district without a permit, except
in connection with commercial purposes.
D.
Christmas and other holiday decorations, including
lighting.
A.
The following signs, not self-illuminated, may be
placed in R Districts and I2 and BT Districts without a permit:
(2)
One wall, projecting or freestanding sign on each
building frontage identifying the name and/or address of the occupants
of a residence.
(3)
Signs as needed to identify the buildings or activities
of colleges, hospitals and similar institutions.
(4)
One bulletin board on each building frontage, customarily
incident to churches, libraries, museums and similar institutions.
(5)
Historical marker signs.
The following signs may be placed in B1, B2,
B3, B4, B5, B6 and BA Districts without a permit:

At each entrance to an office, public or institutional
building, a sign denoting only the name and/or business or profession
of the occupants.
D.
Temporary signs, banners or window signs announcing
the opening or closing of a business, sales, price listings and similar.
E.
Portable public information signs approved by the
Enforcement Official.
F.
At gasoline stations, integral graphics or attached
price signs on gasoline pumps.
G.
One portable sign, not illuminated, and not to exceed
four feet by four feet.
