in which "L" equals the allowable leakage in
gallons per hour; "S" is the length of pipeline tested in feet; "D"
is the nominal diameter of the pipe, in inches, and "P" is the average
test pressure during the leakage test, in pounds per square inch gauge.
(The allowable leakage according to the formula is equivalent to 11.65
U.S. gallons per 24 hours per mile of pipe per inch nominal diameter,
for pipe in 18-foot lengths evaluated on a pressure basis of 150 psi.)
When testing against closed metal seated valves, an additional leakage
per closed valve of 0.0078 gallon per hour per inch of nominal valve
size shall be allowed. There shall be no additional leakage allowed
for service connections.
