[Amended 7-17-1995 by FMC-307]
The fee for all such construction permits shall be as stated in Chapter
150, Fees, Fines and Charges, Article 8.
No driveway shall be so constructed or graded as to leave a
step, sharp depression or other obstruction on the sidewalk. The grade
shall be as nearly as possible the same as that of the adjoining sidewalk.
It shall be unlawful to have the grade of such portion vary from the
grade of the sidewalk, or be other than level with the sidewalk and
shall end the pavement line.
Driveways across sidewalks shall be as follows:
A. Driveways constructed in parkways of public streets shall be not
less than 10 feet in width and shall extend from the sidewalk edge
nearest the roadway to the back of the curb. The driveway surface
shall be level with the surface of the adjoining sidewalk and shall
slope toward the curb at grade of not less than 2.10% (1/4 inch vertical
to one foot horizontal). Where the driveway abuts the curb, the surface
of the driveway shall be not less than 3/4 inch above the gutter line
or the top, provided where curb and/or sidewalks do not exist, the
alignments and elevations for same shall be established by the Director
of Public Works and the driveway constructed in accordance therewith.
B. No driveway shall be constructed in such manner as to obstruct proper
roadway drainage, roadway maintenance or snow removal.
C. Where, in the opinion of the Director of Public Works, the existing
public sidewalk over which vehicles using the driveway must pass is
not of sufficient strength, the said sidewalk shall be removed and
replaced with new PCC sidewalk. The new sidewalk shall be not less
than six inches in thickness, or seven inches if so ordered by the
Director of Public Works.
D. The new sidewalk shall extend the full width of the adjoining driveway.
Expansion joints consisting of preformed joint filler 1/2 inch in
thickness shall be placed where new sidewalk joins existing sidewalk.
Applicable portions of the code governing construction of PCC sidewalks
are hereby made a part of this specification.
E. Where concrete driveways abut sidewalks and curbs, the structures
shall be separated by expansion joints consisting of preformed joint
filler 1/2 inch in thickness.
It shall be the duty of the person maintaining the driveway
to keep the same in good repair where it crosses the sidewalk, and
free from obstruction and openings.
