Agents for loan companies defined — A loan agent within
the meaning of this Subsection is any person, firm or corporation
who shall lend, or offer to lend, or negotiate the loan of money of
another, or who shall advertise money to lend.

Astrologer — One who tells or pretends
to tell future events by studying the position and location of heavenly
bodies and ascertaining their alleged influence upon human life and
destiny.

Clairvoyant — One who practices and has
or pretends to have the ability, gift or faculty of seeing or discerning
objects not present to the senses or within the reach of knowledge
of persons under normal conditions.

Fortuneteller — One who tells or pretends
to tell, by any means or method whatsoever, the events of one's
life.

Medium — A person who practices and to
whom the actions of another being is claimed to be manifested and
transmitted by animal magnetism, or a person to whom spiritual manifestations
are claimed to be made, especially one who is claimed or who claims
to be capable of holding communication with the spirits of the deceased.

Palmist — One who practices palmistry
or claims to reveal character or reveal the past, present or future
events by the lines in the palm of the hand.

Slatewriter — One who conducts seances
at which it is claimed that spirits of deceased persons write on slates,
paper or otherwise.

Auctioneer defined — An auctioneer is
defined to be any person who shall sell or offer to sell any goods,
wares, merchandise or other personal property or real estate or any
interest therein at any store, stand or place within the limits of
the City of Hayti at public auction or outcry for his/her own gain;
or shall advertise or in any other manner hold himself/herself out
as an auctioneer for business patronage.

Automobile agency or dealer defined —
An automobile agency or dealer is an agency or office, storeroom or
place of business, person, firm or corporation engaged in selling,
exposing or offering for sale any kind of automobile, motorcar or
similar vehicle.

Automobile garage and repair shop defined —
Any person, firm or corporation who shall keep and maintain any room,
building or place in which automobiles are kept for hire or in which
automobiles belonging to persons other than the owner or keeper of
said room, building or place where same are kept, stored and cleaned
or repaired, and for said keeping, storing, cleaning or repairing
a charge is made, is hereby defined to be a keeper of an automobile
garage.

Banks defined — A bank is an institution
which trades in money, an establishment for the deposit, custody and
issue of money and for making loans and discounts and for the transmission
of remittances from one (1) place to another.

Boarding house defined — A public boarding
house within the meaning of this Subsection is any place where meals
or lodging are served to two (2) or more persons by the week, day,
month, or single meal for pay or compensation, which does not come
within the definition of a hotel as given below.

Butchers defined — A butcher is a person,
firm or corporation who sells the fresh meat of cattle, hogs or sheep
in any quantity less than one-quarter (1/4) of any animal at any stand,
store or place. Provided, that no license shall be required of any
butcher who is operating a business under a merchant's license,
the tax on which equals or exceeds the tax set out above.

Street contractor — Payable yearly -
$25.25 per year.

Painting contractor — Payable yearly
- $25.25 per year.

Plastering contractor — Payable yearly
- $25.25 per year.

Building contractor — Payable yearly
- $50.25 per year.

Cotton dealer defined — A cotton dealer
is any person, firm or corporation that carries on the business of
buying or selling, either for himself/herself or for another, lint
or seed cotton.

Filling station defined — A filling station
is a place of business where lubricating oil, gasoline and grease
are sold to the retail trade.
|
Fire insurance companies defined — This
license tax to levy upon each insurance company having an agent representing
or doing business for such insurance company in this City, by such
agent soliciting for or distributing any advertising matter bearing
the name of such company, or the name of such agent as its representative,
or by writing for or transmitting to such company any policy or policies
of insurance for issue or approval by such company, or by receiving
or transmitting any application from any person, firm or corporation
for insurance with such insurance company, or by receiving for or
transmitting to any such company premiums or money or its equivalent,
whether the same is received in behalf of such insurance company,
or as the agent for the person or persons, firm or corporation desiring
or applying for insurance, or in any other way representing such insurance
company in soliciting or carrying on the business of insurance in
said City.

Hotel defined — Any person, firm or corporation
who keeps a house open for the reception and accommodation of transient
guests, whether meals are served or not and charges daily rates, is
hereby declared to be a hotel keeper.

Hucksters defined — Any person selling
fruits, produce, grain, butter, eggs, fowls or vegetables of any kind
or description, except such articles of produce above described as
are produced or raised by his/her own labor or upon his/her own premises,
by going about from place to place or by going upon the public streets
with any wagon, cart or vehicle of any description from which is sold
any fruits, produce, grain, butter, eggs, fowls or vegetables shall
be deemed a huckster within the meaning of this Section and shall
take out a license for each wagon, cart or vehicle of any description
used in such business.

Installment merchants defined — Any person,
firm or corporation that sells goods, wares or merchandise by sample
for delivery at some future date, where said goods are sold on installment
or to be paid for at a specified time, shall be deemed an installment
merchant.

Insurance agents defined — An insurance agent within the
meaning of this Chapter is any person, firm or corporation representing
any life, accident, health or casualty insurance company.

Junk dealer defined — A junk dealer is
any person, firm or corporation who buys, sells or offers to buy or
sell any old iron, brass, steel, bones, rags, bottles, etc.
|
Loan company defined — A loan company
is any person, firm or corporation who buys, sells or offers to buy
or sell any stock or shares in any corporation, bonds, notes, judgment
or other securities, or making money loans for profits; provided that
this Subsection shall not apply to any person, firm or corporation
having a license for and doing business as a banking institution.

Manufacturer defined — A manufacturer
is any person, company, firm or corporation who shall hold or purchase
personal property for the purpose of adding to the value thereof by
any means of manufacturing, refining or by the combination of different
materials and shall include all persons engaged in the manufacturing
within the City of coats, shoes, saddlery, harness, saddle trees,
agricultural implements, wagons, carriages or buggies, clothing, bricks,
gas, ice, flour, fermented wines, soda or mineral waters, spirituous
liquors, hoops, lathes, staves, and lumber, egg cases, and all other
articles made or produced by a manufacturer as above defined; provided
that this definition of a manufacturer shall not apply to a licensed
merchant who may manufacture articles which are exclusively sold at
his/her store, stand or place of business, nor shall it apply to any
shoemaker, printer, carpenter, blacksmith or other mechanic whose
finished product is the result of his/her own labor.

Shooting galleries defined — A shooting
gallery is any room or place where any kind of firearms or air guns
are kept for public use, practice or sport and for hire, gain or profit.
