Every officer of the City and his assistants, and every Alderman,
before entering upon the duties of his office, shall take and subscribe
to an oath or affirmation before some court of record in the County,
or the City Clerk, that he possesses all the qualifications prescribed
for his office by law; that he will support the Constitution of the
United States and the State of Missouri, the provisions of all laws
of this State affecting Cities of the Fourth Class, and the ordinances
of the City, and faithfully demean himself while in office; which
official oath or affirmation shall be filed with the City Clerk.

Every officer of the City of Peculiar, Missouri, both elective
and appointive, who shall by laws of the State of Missouri and ordinance
of this City receive into his hands any money belonging to the City,
shall give bond to the City before entering upon the discharge of
the duties of his office, conditioned upon the faithful performance
of his duty, and that he will pay over all monies belonging to the
City, as provided by law, that may come into his hands by virtue of
his office.
The amount of bond of any officer mentioned in this Chapter
shall be fixed by ordinance and the amount of any such bond may be
changed from time to time in the same way by the Board of Aldermen,
whenever in their judgment and discretion it should be so changed.

If any person elected or appointed to any office shall fail
to take and subscribe such oath or affirmation, or to give bond, as
herein required, his office shall be deemed vacant.

For any breach of condition of any bond, as above required,
suit may be instituted thereon by the City, or by any person in the
name of the City to the use of such person.

Whenever any Officer of the City of Peculiar shall be required
by the law of this State or any ordinance of said City to enter into
any official bond he may elect with the consent and approval of the
Mayor and Board of Aldermen of said City to enter into a surety bond
or bonds with a surety company or companies authorized to do business
in the State of Missouri and the cost of every such bond shall be
paid out of the City Treasury.
