There is hereby established a Taxicab Commission, hereinafter
referred to as the "Commission." The Commission's purpose shall
be to advise the Mayor and City Council as to issues of concern to
taxicab businesses operating in the City of Camden.
The voting members of the Commission shall be comprised of local
taxicab business owners, operators or employees, who are based or
work in the City of Camden and are actively employed, involved or
interested in the taxicab business.
The Commission shall consist of seven voting members who shall
be appointed by a majority vote of the City Council of the City of
Camden. The following City of Camden officials shall serve as nonvoting,
ex officio members of the Commission, who shall attend meetings of
Commission at their sole discretion and may send an authorized representative
in their place: the Mayor; President of City Council; Director of
Code Enforcement; Bureau of License and Inspections; the City Attorney;
and the Police Department.
The Commission Chairperson shall be appointed by a majority
vote of the Commission's voting members.
Commissioners shall each serve for a term of two years; except
that the first of these appointees shall be staggered and designated
to serve for the following terms: four for a term of two years and
three for a term of one year.
The Commission shall advise the Mayor and City Council on the
following matters:
A. From time to time, provide advisory reports and recommendations to
the Mayor and City Council on issues of concern to taxicab businesses.
B. Research and educate as to best practices for the taxicab industry.
C. Demonstrate the importance of taxicab businesses to the City.
The Committee shall periodically meet and report to the Mayor
and City Council at least one time per year.
A quorum shall consist of 2/3 of the voting membership of the
Commission.
There is no provision herein made for the hiring or employment
of officers and employees of the Commission. The Commission shall
function solely in an advisory capacity in reporting and making recommendations
to the Mayor and City Council with respect to its purpose and duties
stated above.
