A. Office Created. The office of Fire Chief is hereby created
in the City.
B. Appointment. The Mayor shall, with the consent and approval
of a majority of the members elected to the City Council, appoint
some suitable and competent person to the office of Fire Chief.
C. Qualifications. The person appointed to the office of Fire
Chief shall possess a thorough and practical knowledge of the latest
methods of fire prevention and protection and of the work, tools and
equipment used in connection therewith. He/she shall be familiar with
the streets and alleys and the location of fire hydrants in the City.
He/she shall be sober and industrious. The Fire Chief shall live within
a five (5) mile radius of the City limits of Richmond, Missouri.
D. Oath Of Office. The Fire Chief shall take the oath prescribed
for City Officers.
E. Duties. The Fire Chief, when on duty, shall personally superintend
and direct the work of fighting and extinguishing all fires within
the City; and when off duty, the Fire Chief shall appoint some suitable
member of the Fire Department to act as Assistant Fire Chief, and
such person so appointed or named by the Fire Chief shall have the
same power and authority as the Fire Chief until the return of the
Fire Chief to duty.
