A. There shall be elected by the Municipal Council in January of every third year a Sealer of Weights and Measures who shall hold said office for three years or until a successor is chosen and qualified. The person so appointed shall be appointed in conformance with Section
19.1(d) of the Charter. He/she shall be removable for cause by the Department of Public Works Commissioner with a two-thirds vote of approval by the Municipal Council.
B. The Sealer of Weights and Measures shall be available in the office
on each Monday, Wednesday and Friday (holidays excepted) between the
hours of 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for the accommodation of persons
who desire to have tested and sealed any scales, weights and measures
which are utilized for the purpose of buying or selling any commodity.
C. There shall be elected by the Municipal Council in January of every
third year a Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures who shall hold
said office for three years or until a successor is chosen and qualified.
He/she shall be removable for cause by the Department of Public Works
Commissioner with the concurrence of a majority of the Municipal Council.
Vacancy in such office shall be filled in like manner for the unexpired
term. The Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures shall assist the Sealer
of Weights and Measures in performing all those duties required by
the general laws of this commonwealth. The Deputy Sealer of Weights
and Measures shall, in addition to his scheduled workweek, be available
for call/response duty on a seven-day-a-week/twenty-four-hour basis
unless otherwise excused from call/response duty by the appointing
authority.
D. The Sealer of Weights and Measures shall, in addition to his scheduled

authority and shall comply in all respects with the requirements and
duties established for said position as detailed in MGL c. 98, §§ 34
to 56.
The Sealer of Weights and Measures shall keep a detailed record
of all work and shall make an annual report thereof in writing to
the Mayor showing what measures and weights he/she has tested and
the result of the test, with such other information as the Mayor may
from time to time require.
The Sealer of Weights and Measures and the Deputy Sealer shall
receive such compensation as the Municipal Council may determine,
together with necessary expenses for travel, which shall be in full
for all services rendered by them in the performance of their official
duties. They shall account for and pay into the treasury, monthly,
all fees received by them by virtue of their office and shall render
to the City Treasurer/Collector and the City Auditor a written statement
thereof in detail. The Sealer shall give bond to the City in the sum
of $500 with sufficient sureties to be approved by the Mayor and Municipal
Council, conditioned for the faithful performance of his/her duties.
