Except as otherwise provided in §
436-4 hereof, no person shall own, harbor or keep any dog or cat within the municipal limits of the Township of Mount Olive that is not inoculated against rabies.
Any person owning, harboring or keeping any dog or cat within
the municipal limits of the Township of Mount Olive shall cause such
dog or cat to be inoculated against rabies once each year; provided,
however, that if the Flury chick embryo vaccine is used, the inoculation
against rabies may be administered every three years. The inoculation
shall be administered by a veterinarian duly licensed by the State
of New Jersey or by such other person permitted by law to administer
the same and approved by the Board of Health of the Township of Mount
Olive. The vaccine used must be of a type approved by the United States
Bureau of Animal Industry or by the United States Public Health Service.
Any person who owns, keeps or harbors a dog or cat within the
municipal limits of the Township of Mount Olive shall procure and
cause to be securely fastened on the collar or harness of each such
dog or cat a suitable tag indicating that said dog or cat has been
inoculated against rabies and setting forth the date of such inoculation,
which collar or harness with said tag attached shall be worn by the
dog or cat at all times.
Any person who owns, keeps or harbors a dog or cat within the municipal limits of the Township of Mount Olive shall obtain and keep in his possession a certificate, issued by the veterinarian or other qualified person administering the inoculation pursuant to §
436-2 hereof, indicating that said dog or cat has been inoculated against rabies and indicating the date of such inoculation. Said certificate shall be exhibited to the dog or cat licensing official of the Township of Mount Olive when application for a dog or cat license is made and shall also be exhibited upon the request of any Board of Health member or official or upon the request of a member of the Police Department of the Township of Mount Olive.
This chapter shall not apply to:
A. Dogs or cats which have not attained the age of seven months.
B. Any dog or cat which the Board of Health, for a specified period
of time, declares exempt based upon presentation of a satisfactory
certificate from a veterinarian duly licensed in the State of New
Jersey stating that, because of an infirmity or other physical condition,
the inoculation of such dog or cat shall be deemed inadvisable for
a specified period of time.
C. Dogs or cats in veterinary hospitals, dog or cats in transit, dogs
or cats brought into the Township of Mount Olive temporarily for the
sole purpose of dog or cat or pet shows or exhibitions or dogs or
cats seven months of age or older within 10 days of the date of acquisition
of said dog or cat.
Any person who violates this chapter shall pay a fine as follows:
