The Township of Lakewood is governed under the Township form of government outlined in Chapter 63 of Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes Annotated. The Administrative Chapter has been drafted in conformity with the Township Law and in many instances, provisions have been restated in the Code. Other enabling laws pertaining to the Administrative Chapter are N.J.S.A. 40A:14-118, Police Department; N.J.S.A. 40A:14-7, Fire Departments; N.J.S.A. 2A:9-7 et seq., Municipal Court; N.J.S.A. 40:55D-69, Zoning Board of Adjustment; N.J.S.A. 40:55D-23, Planning Board; N.J.S.A. 26:3-1 et seq., Board of Health; N.J.S.A. 40:56A, Environmental Committee; and N.J.S.A. 40:8-107 et seq., Local Assistance Board. Other authority to regulate the internal affairs of the Township is contained in N.J.S.A. 40:48-2.
