There shall be a Department of Code Enforcement, the Administrator
of which shall be the Construction Official. Within this Department
there shall be a Division of the Uniform Construction Code, a Division
of Zoning Enforcement and the Division of Code Compliance.
The Division of Uniform Construction Code shall come under the
direction of the Construction Official, who shall be appointed by
the Township Committee in accordance with law, and shall include the
responsibilities and powers set forth in the Uniform Construction
Code. The Construction Official shall keep a record of proceedings,
a building permit book, Certificate of Occupancy book, complaint book
and such other books as are from time to time required of him, all
of which shall be subject to inspection. The Construction Official
shall report regularly to the Township Administrator and, whenever
requested to do so, report the number of building permits issued,
the estimated cost of such work and the fees received and paid by
him to the Township Treasurer, and such other matters or activities
that may be appropriate and applicable.
There shall be a Division of Zoning Enforcement, administered by the Zoning Officer who shall be appointed annually by and at the reorganization meeting of the Township Committee. It shall be the duty of the Zoning Officer to enforce the Zoning Ordinance in accordance with the provisions of Chapter
10 and
76 of the Code of the Township of Montague. Pursuant to that duty, the Zoning Officer shall investigate any zoning violation or alleged violation coming to his attention. All applications to the Construction Official for building permits shall be examined by the Zoning Officer as to compliance, and the zoning permits signed by the Zoning Officer shall issue prior to the issuance of a building permit.
The Division of Code Compliance shall come under the direction
of the Code Enforcement Officer, who shall be appointed annually by
and at the reorganization meeting of the Township Committee. The Division
shall be responsible for administering and/or coordinating a comprehensive
system of code enforcement respecting all codes other than the Construction
Code and the Zoning Ordinance.

The Division of Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Enforcement
shall come under the direction of the Soil Erosion and Sediment Control
Officer, who shall be appointed annually by and at the reorganization
meeting of the Township Committee. The Division shall be responsible
for administering and/or coordinating the comprehensive system of
enforcement of the Soil Erosion and Sediment Control Ordinance.
