There is hereby created the office of the Director of Public Works in and for the Borough of Neptune City.

The Director of Public Works shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Borough Council.

The Director of Public Works shall serve at the pleasure of the Borough Council, unless he has obtained tenure as provided in Section 18-28 hereof.
The duties of the Director of Public Works shall include supervising and care and maintenance of streets, roads, avenues, beaches, parks, recreation areas, playgrounds and facilities thereof, public buildings, public places, sewer and motor vehicles of the Borough of Neptune City and such other duties as are assigned from time to time by the Mayor and Council.
The Director of Public Works shall also manage the daily operations of the Public Works Department including assets, policy, procedures, budget and personnel.
The salary of the Director of Public Works shall be fixed by the annual Salary Ordinance of the Borough of Neptune City.
A person holding office, position or employment as full time Director of Public Works who has held the office, position or employment as the Superintendent of Public Works previously and continuously for five years or more shall continue to hold the office of Director of Public Works, notwithstanding that he is serving for a fixed term, during good behavior and efficiency and shall not be removed therefrom for political or other reasons, except for good cause upon written charges filed with the Borough Clerk after a public, fair and impartial hearing before the Borough Council.
