A. 
The President of the Village of Flossmoor shall hereafter be referred to as the "Mayor." He shall be elected for a term of four years, and he shall be the President of the Board of Trustees, as is provided by statute.
B. 
Following receipt of the official election results from the County Clerk, the Mayor, having been duly elected and qualified, shall take office and begin his or her term at the first regular or special meeting of the corporate authorities held after May 1 but in no event later than the last regular meeting of the corporate authorities held in the month of May.

He shall be the chief executive officer of the Village, and he shall perform all such duties as may be required of him by statute or ordinance. He shall have supervision over all the executive officers of the Village. He shall have the power and authority to inspect all books and records kept by any Village officer or employee at any reasonable time.
Whenever there is a question as to the respective powers or duties of any appointed officer of the Village, this shall be settled by the Mayor, and he shall have the power to delegate to any such officer any duty which is to be performed when no specific officer has been directed to perform the duty.
Before entering upon the duties of his office, the Mayor shall give a bond, as provided by statute and Chapter 21, Administration, § 21-1-6, of this Code, conditioned upon the faithful performance of his duties. He shall take the oath of office as prescribed by statute, and shall receive such compensation as may be set from time to time by the Board of Trustees.

During the temporary absence or disability of the Mayor, the Board of Trustees shall elect one of its members to act as Mayor pro tem, who during the absence or disability of the Mayor shall perform the duties and possess all the rights and powers pertaining to the Office of Mayor.

A. 
Upon declaration of a state of emergency by proclamation or order of the Governor of the State of Illinois, the Illinois Department of Health and Human Services or the Cook County Health Department, the Mayor is authorized to declare that a state of emergency exists in the Village.
B. 
Upon declaration of a state of emergency in the Village, the Mayor shall sign, under oath, a statement finding that either the Governor of the State of Illinois, the Illinois Department of Health and Human Services or the Cook County Health Department has declared a state of emergency and that such declaration is the basis for declaring a state of emergency in the Village. The statement shall be filed with the Village Clerk as soon as practical.
C. 
Upon finding a state of emergency exists in the Village, the Mayor shall have extraordinary power and authority, as may be reasonably necessary to respond to the emergency, which power and authority shall expire no later than the adjournment of the first regular meeting of the Board of Trustees after the state of emergency is declared.
