[HISTORY: Adopted by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Canisteo 8-3-1970 by resolution; amended in its entirety 4-3-1989 by L.L. No. 7-1989. Subsequent amendments noted where applicable.]
There shall be a Board for the Village of Canisteo, Steuben County, New York, appointed by the Village Board of Trustees, to be known as the "Village Planning Board," consisting of five members appointed according to the requirements of the General Municipal Law, the initial members of which shall serve for a term of one year, for a term of two years, for a term of three years, for a term of four years and for a term of five years; and at the expiration of such terms, the terms of office of their successors shall be for terms of five years.

Pursuant to Article 7 of the Village Law, said Planning Board is hereby authorized and empowered to approve plats showing lots, blocks or sites with or without streets or highways and to conditionally approve preliminary plats and to pass and approve the development of plats already filed in the office of the Clerk of said county if such plats are entirely or partially undeveloped.
Said Planning Board is authorized and empowered to approve or disapprove:
A. 
Changes in the lines of existing streets, highways or public areas shown on subdivision plats or maps filed in the office of the Clerk of said county.
B. 
The laying out, closing off or abandonment of streets, highways or public areas under the provisions of the Village Law and the Highway Law.
Said Planning Board is hereby appointed as the Village Zoning Commission and is hereby authorized and empowered to make a preliminary report of proposed zoning and regulations for the Village, recommending districts and regulations to be enforced therein, and to hold public hearing thereon before submitting any final report to the Village Board.
