The employment of any officer or member of the Police Department who enters the employ of the Village of Mamaroneck after the effective date of this article shall be terminated upon the completion of 25 years of service as an officer or member of the Police Department of the Village or on the first day of the calendar month next succeeding his attainment of age 62, whichever event shall occur first, unless the period of service in the Police Department of the Village is extended by written notice to such officer or member issued by the Board of Trustees at least one year prior thereto.

The employment of any officer or member of the Police Department of the Village of Mamaroneck employed on or before the effective date of this article who has served the Village of Mamaroneck less than 21 years as of the effective date of this article and who, at any time, elects to contribute to the retirement system pursuant to § 384 of the Retirement and Social Security Law shall be terminated upon the completion of 25 years of service as an officer or member of the Police Department of the Village or on the first day of the calendar month next succeeding his attainment of age 62, whichever event shall occur first, unless the period of service in the Police Department of the Village is extended by written notice to such officer or member issued by the Board of Trustees at least one year prior thereto.

The employment of any officer or member of the Police Department of the Village of Mamaroneck employed on or before the effective date of this article who is not a member of the State Employees Retirement System or who, being a member, does not, at any time, elect to contribute to the retirement system pursuant to § 384 of the Retirement and Social Security Law shall be terminated on the first day of the calendar month next succeeding his attainment of age 62 or on the first day of the calendar month after his next birthday, whichever is the later, unless the period of service in the Police Department of the Village of Mamaroneck is extended by written notice to such officer or member issued by the Board of Trustees at least three months prior to his attaining retirement age, but in no event shall an extension of employment be granted after the attainment of age 65. The Chief of Police of the Village of Mamaroneck, whose employment may be continued on and after the first day of the calendar month next succeeding his attainment of age 65, may be extended at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees for a period of time not to exceed three hundred 365 days.

Any officer or member of the Police Department of the Village of Mamaroneck whose employment is terminated pursuant to § 60-2 hereof shall be entitled to a three-month extension of service beyond the dates specified in said sections upon written request to the Board of Trustees.
