The Brookfield Zoning Board of Appeals shall consist of five regular
members and three alternate members who shall be electors of the Town not
holding any other elected Town office and who shall be elected biennially
at the regular elections on the first Monday in October in the odd years.
The term of office for each regular member of said Board shall be six years,
except that in the first annual election the terms of office shall be staggered;
two members, two years; two members, four years; and one member, six years.
In the event of the resignation or death of any member of said Board, the
Board of Selectmen shall appoint a successor who shall serve until the next
regularly scheduled biennial election, at which time the vacancy shall be
filled for the remainder of the term for which the original member was elected.
The term of office for each alternate member of said Board shall be six years,
except that in the first annual election the terms of office shall be staggered;
one alternate member, two years; one alternate member, four years; and one
alternate member, six years. In accordance with Act No. 665 of the Public
Acts of 1959, the Zoning Board of Appeals of five regular and three alternate
members shall be considered an eight-member board, thereby limiting the maximum
representation of the same political party to five.
