The following job specifications are hereby adopted for the rank of police officer in the Wilkinsburg Police Department:
A. 
Under direction and supervision, performs duties to preserve the peace, detect and apprehend offenders, protect life and property and provide for community safety by enforcing state and local laws, ordinances and regulations.
B. 
Specific duties consist of:
(1) 
Performing line functions of patrol to repress criminal activity, regulate conduct and deliver emergency public service, providing traffic control and enforcement to reduce accidents and congestion, performing crime investigation functions to apprehend criminals, recover stolen property and gather and prepare evidence for the prosecution of criminals, engage in vice control to eliminate commercialized vice and safeguard the morals of the community, controlling youthful offenders to prevent the development of delinquent tendencies and to aid in their correction.
(2) 
Performing nonline functions to facilitate the delivery of police service consisting of records duties, recording, classifying and indexing facts relating to departmental activities; communications duties to receive and transmit police information and orders using the telephone, radio, teletype and other communication devices; jail duties to provide suitable custodial detention; property control to care for department property and property coming into Department possession.
