[Adopted 11-16-1988 by Ord. No. 1640]
It shall be the responsibility of the owner of any building within the Township of Ridley that is equipped with a fire alarm system to see that such alarm systems are kept in a state of maintenance and repair so as to ensure that the system will not fail to operate or operate in a defective manner.
A fire alarm system is defective when, without the intervention of an outside agency, it gives off an alarm indicating that there is a fire when no such fire has occurred. Where the alarm is set off by an unintentional outside agency, which results in a location response by a fire company, this shall be considered a defect until such time as such measures are taken so as to protect the mechanism from the unintentional outside agency.
A.
Upon the occurrence of the first such fire alarm in any calendar year, the Fire Marshal shall issue written notice to the property owner directing that the defective alarm system be repaired.
B.
Whoever violates or fails to comply with any of the provisions of this article shall be fined not more than $100 for the second offense, $300 for the third offense, $600 for the fourth offense and $1,000 for the fifth or subsequent offense, and cost of prosecution. In default of payment of the fine and cost the violator shall be imprisoned for not more than 30 days. Each and every day in which a violation or noncompliance occurs or continues shall constitute a separate offense.
