Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-141, there is hereby
established the office of Municipal Tax Collector.
The Mayor shall appoint, with the advice and
consent of the Borough Council, the Municipal Tax Collector, who shall
hold a certificate in accordance with the applicable statutory requirements
and shall hold office for a term of four years from the first day
of January next following the said appointment. Vacancies in the office,
due other than to the expiration of the term, shall be filled by appointment
for the unexpired term only.
The Tax Collector shall possess all of the powers
and duties established by law. The Collector shall:
A.
Enter, in suitable books to be kept for that purpose,
the sums received by him each day for taxes, with the names of persons
on whose account the same shall have been paid.
B.
Within 60 days after the end of the fiscal year or
when otherwise required by the Council, make and furnish a report
thereof with a detailed and true statement of all moneys received
from the commencement of his official year to the date of the report
and for such period as the Council may require.
C.
Keep a record of all delinquent taxpayers and shall
furnish a list thereof for the previous year.
D.
File a report with two copies of the statement and
a list of delinquent taxpayers with the Borough Clerk, within the
time hereinbefore specified or when otherwise required by law.
