Numbering system. There is hereby established a numbering system for buildings in the Township in accordance with the Post Office servicing that area.
It is hereby declared unlawful to use any new number on any building unless it is a number designated for that particular location.
Any person now the owner of any interest in a building or who may hereafter acquire any such interest is hereby charged with the obligation to change any number or numbers now in use on any such building if inconsistent with the numbering system hereby established by the Post Office servicing that area.
It shall be the duty of the property owner to know on which lot the subject building to be numbered is located, and he/she shall use the appropriate number thereof. In case of conflict as to the proper number to be assigned to any building, the Township Tax Assessor shall determine the number of such building and this decision shall be final.
Whenever any house, building or structure shall be erected or located in this Township after the establishment of the numbering system, in order to preserve the continuity and uniformity of numbers of the houses, buildings and structures, it shall be the duty of the owner to procure the correct number as designated from the office of the Township Tax Assessor and to immediately fasten the number so assigned upon the building(s) as provided by this section. No building permit shall be issued for any house, building or structure until the owner has procured the official number of the house, building or structure from the Tax Assessor.
The method of numbering shall be in accordance with the zoned lot sizes.
[Amended 6-15-2004 by Ord. No. 04-18]
A.
House numbers shall be a minimum of three inches in height, clearly visible from the street, and located below the outside light or on a more prominent place, if any. House numbers shall be procured and affixed at the homeowner’s expense. Numbers shall be installed in order to provide the greatest degree of identification of the property so as to assist any persons thereon. The identification number(s) shall be made of durable and clearly visible material. The numbers shall be of reflective material or of sufficient visible contrast to the background material to be easily discernible at night with the aid of an emergency vehicle spotlight. All numbers shall be mounted in a secure fashion to the front wall or porch of the building or other fixed appurtenance such as a post, rod or mailbox, which shall be placed between the front of the building and the street so as to be clearly visible from the street. Each multiple-family dwelling shall identify the dwelling as described above and shall post the numbers or letters identifying each individual unit immediately outside the unit entrance.
B.
For houses greater than 50 feet from the street curb (or edge of pavement in the absence of curbing), in addition to the requirements of Subsection A, numbers at least three inches in height shall be posted on the street included in the house address, in a location nearest to the house, or, at the base of the driveway serving the house. These numbers shall be placed on a mailbox or on a self-standing post. They shall be placed along the street included in the house address and shall be clearly visible from both travel directions of the street.
C.
Where the actual physical driveway access to a house is different than the street assigned by the postal service as the 911/mailing address, a number shall be installed on the house fronting the address street as set forth in the Subsection A, and a second set of numbers posted at the entrance of the physical driveway in accordance with Subsection B. The posting at the end of the driveway shall include both the house number and 911/mailing address and shall be clearly visible from both travel directions of the street. If a driveway is longer than 500 feet in length, a placard or sign measuring four inches by six inches shall be posted at the entrance of the driveway stating the length between the entrance of the driveway on the street and the house.
D.
Privately owned streets shall post both the numbers for all houses located on that street and the name of the street at the location where the privately owned street intersects a publicly owned street. These numbers shall be placed on a self-standing post or mailbox and shall be visible from both travel directions of the street. They shall be at least three inches in height and clearly visible. Where multiple mailboxes serving multiple individual dwellings are grouped together, each individual dwelling shall be posted as described above.
E.
