City of Derby, CT Article II Menageries, Shows, Circuses and Exhibitions

§ 53-8 License required.

No person shall give, exhibit or take any part as an actor, exhibit, servant, agent or employee in the giving or exhibiting of any wild animal, menagerie, show, circus, exhibition, carnival, theatrical performance, concert or moving picture show without having first obtained a license to give or exhibit such wild animal, menagerie, show, circus, exhibition, carnival, theatrical performance, concert or moving picture show, which license shall be issued by the City Clerk, with the advice and consent of the Mayor.

§ 53-9 Fees.

The fee for such license for any menagerie, circus, carnival or any exhibit, exhibition or show, except as provided in this section, shall be not less than $5 and not more than $50 per day, provided that any person owning, leasing or managing any building, place or enclosure that is regularly used for any of the foregoing purposes may secure a license for the use of such building, place or enclosure for such purposes for the term of one year, for which such person shall pay not less than $100, provided that every person giving, exhibiting or showing in such building, place or enclosure any menagerie, circus, carnival or any exhibit, exhibition or show, except as provided, shall pay for such license not more than $5.

§ 53-10 Fee for theatrical performance.

The fee for any theatrical performance, concert or moving picture show shall be not less than $5 and not more than $25 per day, provided that any person owning, leasing or managing any building, place or enclosure that is regularly used for any of the purposes described in this section may secure a license for the use of such building, place or enclosure for such purposes for the term of one year, for which such person, firm or corporation shall pay not less than $60, provided that every person giving or exhibiting in such building, place or enclosure any theatrical performance, concert or moving picture show shall pay for such license not more than $5.

§ 53-11 Exemption for local societies.

No fee shall be required for any license for any exhibit, exhibition, menagerie, show, circus, carnival, theatrical performance, concert or moving picture show given by any local society, organization or association.

§ 53-12 Immoral performances prohibited.

No person shall perform, give, exhibit or show any performance, exhibition or concert of any character, or any part thereof, that is immoral, indecent or blasphemous.
