Each position in the borough has an established salary range. New employees start at the bottom of the salary range and are advanced periodically (in most cases on a yearly basis) along the steps of the range until they have reached the top pay for the position.

All employees shall be paid biweekly starting on Thursday, January 15, 1959. When a holiday falls on a Thursday which is a payday, payment will be made on the preceding Wednesday. All full-time, part-time and elected public officials who receive compensation from the Borough of Rutherford are mandated to have direct deposit of their compensation as of January 1, 2022, in accordance with Chapter 28 of P.L. 2013, as defined under N.J.S.A. 52:14-15f(b). The Borough may grant exemptions to seasonal and temporary employees.
Any questions concerning wages may be discussed by an employee with his department head. The department head may in turn discuss the matter with the Personnel Officer. If the matter is not settled satisfactorily at this level, the employee may proceed further in accordance with the procedure outlined under grievances.
