The Board of Fire Officers shall keep a master
record of all members of the department, along with the individual
records for each individual pertaining to training, correspondence
and other data regarding their fire service.
Members of the Fire Department shall consist of Dumont residents and nonresidents, as specified in § 36-3B of this chapter between the ages of 18 and 65 years of age.
A.
No applicant shall hereafter be eligible to become
an active member of the Fire Department of the Borough unless the
applicant shall possess the following qualifications:
(1)
Be between 18 and 45 years of age. This does not include
transfers from other departments within the state of New Jersey.
(2)
Be a citizen of the United States.
(4)
Be in good health and sound physical condition, and
able to perform the duties of a fire member.
(5)
Be the holder of a valid New Jersey driver's license.
B.
An application for active membership shall be filed
with the Secretary of the fire company in which the applicant is seeking
membership and shall be accompanied by:
(1)
A birth certificate or other recognized proof of age;
and
(2)
A medical certificate from a physician determined
by the Fire Department, which states that the applicant is in good
health, sound physical condition, medically cleared for respirator
use and is able to perform the duties of a firefighter. The cost of
the examination shall be borne by the Department.
A.
Upon the approval of the applicant by the fire company
to which the application was made, the Secretary of such company shall
forward the approval and all papers of the applicant to the Board
of Fire Officers.
B.
Within 10 days after the forwarding of the application
and other papers by the Secretary of the fire company to the Board
of Fire Officers, and before any recommendation is made by the Board
to the Mayor and Council, the applicant shall be fingerprinted and
investigated in order to permit the Board of Fire Officers to have
a complete record of the applicant.
C.
Upon approval of the application by the Board of Fire
Officers, said Board shall recommend approval of the applicant's membership
by action of the Mayor and Council at its next regular meeting.
D.
The applicant shall not be admitted into membership
in the Fire Department until affirmative approval of his/her application
by the Mayor and Council.
A.
The officers and members of the Fire Department shall
be granted leaves of absence, not to exceed three months at any one
time, with the approval of the fire company involved, the approval
of the Board of Fire Officers, and the confirmation of said approval
by the Mayor and Council.
B.
Military/work leave shall be indefinite pending approval
of the Fire Board.
In order for an officer or a member to obtain
a certificate of exemption, the Board of Fire Officers shall certify
to the Mayor and Council that the officer or member of the Fire Department
making such application has attended 60% of fire service or drill
duty per annum for seven complete years, as required by law.
