GENERAL REFERENCES
Streets and sidewalks — See Ch. 319.
The Township Committee shall appoint the Road Supervisor. The term of office shall be for one year. The rate of compensation shall be set by the Township Committee.
A. 
Reports to the Director of Public Works and is responsible for supervising and coordinating the road maintenance work of Delaware Township to ensure safe and usable roads.
B. 
Supervises and inspects the work performed by the Road Crew and mechanic to insure compliance with established policies, procedures and methods.
C. 
Has responsibility for effectively recommending the hiring, promoting, demoting, disciplining and firing of employees.
D. 
Develops appropriate work programs and schedules for road maintenance work.
E. 
Supervises Foreman in scheduling of work and direction of road crew.
F. 
Prepares estimates and requests for materials, equipment, tools and supplies needed by the Road Department and orders materials as needed.
G. 
Investigates complaints from within the Department, the public, the Police, and the Township Committee via the Director of Public Works.
H. 
Issues driveway permits and inspects work to assure its conformance with Township ordinances.
I. 
Coordinates emergency snow removal and ice control operations.
J. 
Acts to foster harmonious relations between workers engaged in road maintenance and the general public.
K. 
Enforces all safety laws, rules and regulations established to safeguard Department workers and the traveling public on road right-of-ways.
L. 
Prepares factual monthly reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations and submits these reports directly to the Director of Public Works.
M. 
Safeguards Township property under his control and maintains essential records and files.
N. 
Approves Road Crew time cards as submitted by the Road Crew Foreman.
O. 
Performs annual performance appraisals for Road Department members and writes up and reviews it with each employee noting the date and time and keeping it in the employee's file. For each disciplinary action with an employee, a written summary is to be filed in the employee's record file.
P. 
Develops procedures for the safe operation of equipment and a safe work environment and maintains an up-to-date log of MSD sheets on all chemicals used by staff in accordance with New Jersey Right to Know laws.
Q. 
Maintains cost records and prepares annual budget recommendations to the Director of Public Works.
A. 
Four years of comprehensive experience in varied road maintenance and construction work, two years of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity.
B. 
Appointees must possess a valid driver's license issued by the New Jersey Division of Motor Vehicles.
C. 
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English commensurate with the duties of this position.
D. 
Knowledge of the equipment, materials and methods used in various operations performed by the Road Department.
E. 
Knowledge of and familiarity with the type of routines, terrain and maintenance and repair needs of Delaware Township.
F. 
Knowledge of the methods used in snow removal and ice control work.
G. 
Ability to organize, schedule and coordinate assigned supervisory road maintenance work, analyze the problems arising therein, and develop appropriate work methods.
H. 
Ability to provide appropriate assignments, instruction and supervision to Road Crew.
I. 
Ability to investigate complaints and prepare reports thereon.
J. 
Ability to make field checks and inspect various road maintenance operations.

A. 
Responsible for planning, scheduling, directing, controlling and coordinating the daily and long-term operations of Public Works activities, as applicable, including the utilization of manpower, equipment, materials, funds, and other available resources.
B. 
Reports to Public Works Commissioners and is responsible for supervising and coordinating the road maintenance work, road construction, and care and maintenance of Township buildings and property.
C. 
Supervises the activities of the Public Works Manager to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
D. 
Develops appropriate work programs and schedules for development and maintenance work on Township properties.
E. 
Prepares estimates and requests for needed materials, equipment, tools and supplies and places orders for such as required.
F. 
Has responsibility for obtaining estimates and quotations for work to be performed on Township properties other than road maintenance work.
G. 
Supervises and inspects the work performed on Township properties to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures and methods.
H. 
Serves as the Township Recycling Coordinator and the Clean Communities Coordinator.
I. 
Investigates complaints from the public, Township employees and the Township Committee via the Public Works Commissioners.
J. 
Prepares factual monthly reports containing findings, conclusions and recommendations and then submits these reports directly to the Public Works Commissioners, as appropriate.
K. 
Acts to foster harmonious relations between Township employees, contracted Township employees, Township volunteers and the general public.
L. 
Safeguards Township property under their control and maintains essential records and files.

Maintains necessary cost records and prepares annual budget recommendations for Public Works for submission to the Township Committee.
N. 
Approves Public Works annual budget as submitted by the Public Works Manager for sending to the Township Committee.
O. 
Shall receive authorization from the Township Committee before hiring new employees.
