The head of each town department, when authorized by the Town Board, may accept the services of volunteer workers in connection with programs established for the benefit of the town.
Volunteer workers shall be town employees for the purpose of receiving benefits pursuant to the Workmen's Compensation Law, and shall be held harmless by the town against any claim for property damage and personal injury, including death, arising out of the performance of their assigned duties. Within the appropriation therefor and when authorized by the department head, such volunteer workers may be granted maintenance and reimbursement for actual expenses necessarily incurred in the performance of their assigned duties.
