The terms of office of the Mayor and all Trustees are hereby extended to four years.
General Village elections commencing in 1980 shall be held biennially thereafter in the even-numbered years as provided by law.

A. 
The successor to the office of Village Justice and Trustee whose term of office expires in an even-numbered year shall, at the general Village election preceding the expiration of such term of office, be elected for a single five-year term and his successors shall thereafter be elected for terms of four years.
B. 
The office of Village Justice may be occupied by a person, otherwise qualified under existing laws, that resides within the County of Nassau.
This article shall be subject to a mandatory referendum, and such article shall be submitted for approval of the electors at a special election to be held on January 10, 1980, at the Village Hall, between the hours of 12:00 noon and 9:00 p.m. of that day, pursuant to provisions of § 23 of the Municipal Home Rule Law.

This article shall become effective immediately upon approval at said mandatory referendum and filing according to law.

Pursuant to the provisions of § 18 of the Public Officers Law, the Board of Trustees, as the governing body of the Village of South Floral Park, does hereby confer the benefits of § 18 of such law upon the employees of the Village, as therein defined, and agrees that the Village shall be held liable for the costs incurred under the provisions of § 18 of such law.
