As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
AUTOCAB
Includes any automobile or motor car with a carrying capacity of not more than nine passengers, not including the driver, used in the business of carrying passengers for hire which is held out, announced or advertised to operate or run over any of the streets or public highways of this state and which is hired by charter or for a particular contract, or by the day or hour or other fixed period, or to transport passengers to a specified place or places, or which charges a fare or price agreed upon in advance between the operator and the passenger.
JITNEY
Includes any automobile or motor bus, commonly called "jitney," with a carrying capacity of not more than 13 passengers, operated under municipal consent upon a route established wholly within the limits of a single municipality or with a carrying capacity of not more than 20 passengers operated under municipal consent upon a route established wholly within the limits of not more than four contiguous municipalities within any county of the fifth or sixth class, which route in either case does not, in whole or in part, parallel upon the same street the line of any street railway or traction railway or any other jitney route.
LIMOUSINE OR LIVERY SERVICE
Includes the business of carrying passengers for hire by autocabs or limousines.
PERSON
Includes any individual, copartnership, association, corporation or joint-stock company, their lessees or receivers appointed by any court whatsoever.
STREET
Includes any street, avenue, park, parkway, highway or other public place.
TAXICAB
Includes any automobile or motor car, commonly called "taxi," engaged in the business of carrying passengers for hire, which is held out, announced or advertised to operate or run or which is operated or run over any streets in the Borough and particularly accepts and discharges such persons as may offer themselves for transportation from points or places within or without the Borough.

Unless another penalty is expressly provided by New Jersey statute or as otherwise provided by this chapter, any person violating any provision of this chapter or any supplement thereto, upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to the fines and penalties set forth in Chapter 1, § 1-2, General penalty, of this Code, in the discretion of the judge imposing the same.
Taxicabs, autocabs, limousines or jitneys for the exclusive use or transportation of senior citizens, commonly called "dial-a-ride," operated or run over any of the streets or public highways of this state shall be exempt from the provisions of this chapter.
