A general election for the purpose of electing one (1) Alderman
from each Ward shall be held on the first (1st) Tuesday in April,
1979, and on the first (1st) Tuesday in April every two (2) years
thereafter; and a general election for the purpose of electing a Mayor
and one (1) Alderman from each Ward shall be held on the first (1st)
Tuesday in April, 1980, and on the first (1st) Tuesday in April every
two (2) years thereafter.

All persons registered in accordance with the provisions of
the Comprehensive Election Act of 1977 shall be entitled to vote in
any election of the City of Albany, Missouri. Each voter shall vote
only in the Ward in which he or she resides.

The provisions of the Comprehensive Election Act of 1977, enacted
by the General Assembly of the State of Missouri, and any amendments
thereto and rules and regulations promulgated thereunder shall govern
the conduct of City elections, wherever applicable. The City Clerk
shall assume all such duties and perform all such acts as are required
of the City under said Comprehensive Election Act in order that the
general election and such special elections as may be necessary are
lawfully held on the dates specified for said general or special election,
including but not limited to delivery of such written notices of election
and sample ballots as are required.

The City Clerk shall accept statements of candidacy for office
each year for those officers open for election in said year, beginning
at 8:00 A.M., the fifteenth (15th) Tuesday prior to the election and
ending at 5:00 P.M., the eleventh (11th) Tuesday prior to the election.

Upon certification of the results of any general or special
election to the City under the provisions of the Comprehensive Election
Act of 1977, the officers shown to be elected by said certified results
shall take the oath of office at the next regularly scheduled meeting
of the Board of Aldermen. The term of officers so sworn in shall begin
upon taking the oath of office, but under no circumstances shall an
officer so elected enter the discharge of his duties until a bond
shall be furnished as otherwise required by ordinance.

If a vacancy occurs in any elective office, the Mayor or the
person exercising the duties of the Mayor shall cause a special meeting
of the Board of Aldermen to convene where a successor to the vacant
office shall be selected. The successor shall serve until the next
regular municipal election. If a vacancy occurs in any office not
elective, the Mayor shall appoint a suitable person to discharge the
duties of such office until the first (1st) regular meeting of the
Board of Aldermen thereafter, at which time said vacancy shall be
permanently filled for the unexpired term to which the non-elective
official causing the vacancy is appointed by the Mayor, by and with
the consent and approval of the majority of the members of the Board
of Aldermen.
