Vandergrift Borough designates the George G. McMurtry Fire Department,
Vandergrift No. 1 and the Vandergrift Fire Department No. 2 to provide
initiatory fire service to Vandergrift Borough.
The George G. McMurtry Fire Department, Vandergrift No. 1 shall
provide initiatory fire service in the initial response district defined
as the First, Second and Third Wards, together with the portion of
the Sixth Ward described as:
A. Lying east of 24th Alley and north of Walnut Street; and
B. The south side of Custer Avenue.
The Vandergrift Fire Department No. 2 shall provide initiatory
fire service in the initial response district defined as the Fourth,
Fifth and Sixth Wards, except that portion of the Sixth Ward described
as:
A. Lying east of 24th Alley and north of Walnut Street; and
B. The south side of Custer Avenue.

In this article, the following words and terms shall mean:
The designated fire protection services for the Borough may
provide fire service outside the limits of the Borough in the manner,
upon the conditions and for the compensation as hereinafter provided.
Exclusive fire service shall be provided to a municipality outside
the limits of the Borough only when the proper authorities of that
municipality enter into a contract with the Borough, and under the
terms of the contract pay the compensation for the service as provided
therein.
In any case where there is established, under an intergovernmental
agreement in which the Borough participates, fire service may be provided
by the Borough to another municipality under an applicable agreement,
as follows:
A. Exclusive initiatory fire service on a regular day-to-day basis to
a sustaining participant in accordance with the applicable intergovernmental
services agreement;
B. Primary initiatory fire service to a segment of a sustaining participant
on an intra-system basis;
C. Implementing fire services to a sustaining participant on an intra-system
basis;
D. Reciprocal fire service on an occasion-incident basis to a municipality
under an intra-system service agreement.
Fire service may be provided on an occasion-incident basis to
a municipality in an extreme emergency. The response order shall be
at the discretion of the senior officer present of the requested fire
service.
Except as otherwise provided, one designated fire service shall
remain in the Borough at all times.
No contract for fire service provided in this article shall
be entered into until approved by the designated fire service.
