There is established within the Township the Maplewood Seniors
Advisory Committee.
As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the
meanings indicated:
SENIOR
A person who has reached the age of 62.

The general purpose of the Maplewood Seniors Advisory Committee
shall include but not be limited to:
A. Responding to requests from the Township Committee for advisory support
on issues related to the status of seniors living or working in the
Township.
B. Making recommendations to the Township Committee on resolutions and
ordinances that have an impact on the quality of life for seniors
living or working in the Township.
C. Studying and making recommendations to the Township Committee on
issues that impact seniors' ability to live in the Township.
D. Studying and making recommendations to the Township Committee on
ways to better integrate seniors into the political and civic life
of the Township.
E. Being a source for information regarding transportation and health
issues affecting Township seniors.
F. Assisting the Township administration and governing body with outreach
to seniors, and identifying those seniors in the Township who may
need assistance receiving communications from the Township other than
electronically.
G. Assisting the Township administration and governing body with outreach
to civic organizations, faith-based groups, and educational institutions
to advance the Committee's goals.
H. Assisting the Township with the implementation of the work plan of
the SOMA Age Friendly Initiative.

The Township Committee shall appoint 11 residents of the Township,
at least six of whom shall be seniors and one of whom shall be under
the age of 25, to serve as members of the Maplewood Seniors Advisory
Committee.
A. Term.
(1) The initial appointments shall be designated as follows:
(a)
Four shall be appointed for three-year terms.
(b)
Four shall be appointed for two-year terms.
(c)
Three shall be appointed for one-year terms.
(2) Thereafter, all reappointments shall be for a term of three years.
All terms shall expire December 31 of the last year of the appointee's
term.
B. In addition to the appointed members, the Director of the Department
of Community Services, the Health Officer, the Senior Services social
worker, the Maplewood Memorial Library Director or designee, and a
member of SOMA Two Towns shall serve on the Maplewood Seniors Advisory
Committee as (ex officio) nonvoting members.
C. A member of the Maplewood Township Committee shall serve as a liaison
to the Maplewood Seniors Advisory Committee and shall be nonvoting.
D. The Maplewood Seniors Advisory Committee shall select a Chair from
among its members.
