The Director of Public Works is authorized and directed to place
and maintain suitable markers, navigation aids and signs in such water
areas of the Milwaukee River as shall be appropriate to advise the
public of dangerous conditions and to advise the public of the provisions
of this chapter and to post and maintain a copy of the ordinance codified
in this chapter at all public access points within the jurisdiction
of the Village. The purpose of placing buoys and markers in the Milwaukee
River is to notify and warn swimmers, boaters and other members of
the public of the dams located in the Milwaukee River and to warn
the public of this danger.
Buoy locations between Bridge Street and Washington Street on
the Milwaukee River are shown on the sketch attached to Ordinance
A-321-76, copies of which are on file in the Village Clerk's office.
Buoy locations at the dam on the Milwaukee River at the Lime Kiln
Park are likewise shown on the sketch attached to Ordinance A-321-76,
copies of which are on file in the Village Clerk's office, which is
made a part of this chapter.
All markers placed by the Director of Public Works or other
person upon the waters of the river shall comply with the regulations
of the Department of Natural Resources.
No person shall, without authority, remove, damage or destroy
or moor or attach any watercraft to any buoy, beacon or marker placed
in the waters of the river by the authority of the United States,
the state or Village or by any private person pursuant to the provisions
of this chapter.
Any person violating any provision of this article shall, upon
conviction thereof, forfeit not more than $50 for the first offense
or shall be imprisoned not more than 30 days, or both, and shall be
fined not more than $100 or imprisoned not more than 90 days, or both,
upon the conviction of the same offense a second or subsequent time
within one year.
