All residents, businesses and organizations within the Village
of Unadilla shall use the Southern Otsego County Transfer Station
located in Oneonta, New York, for solid waste. Residential recyclable
materials may be delivered to Oneonta or to the county-supplied recycling
center located on Route 7 between Unadilla and Sidney.
The Village of Unadilla will not provide curbside collection
of solid waste or recyclables. Village residents will be responsible
for contracting with private haulers or will transport their solid
waste and recyclables personally, consistent with the rules and procedures
of the Southern Otsego County Transfer Station.
The disposal of major appliances, mattresses, tires and household
furnishings will be the responsibility of individual residents and
businesses, except for periodic advertised collections by the Village
of Unadilla.
The Village of Unadilla will provide periodic collections for
specified green and yard wastes, such as tree branches, brush, leaves
and Christmas trees.
The Village of Unadilla will provide yard waste collection each
spring and fall during specified periods which will be determined
each year and published in the local newspapers. These pickups will
be daily, except weekends and holidays.
All garbage and recyclables are the responsibility of the owner.
Scrap metal pickup will be provided twice each year (spring
and fall) as long as the Village has someone to take them at no cost.
No rubber, plastic, glass or oil, paint or other liquid waste may
be picked up. Bedsprings with wood or fabric are considered garbage.
[Amended 2-16-2021 by L.L. No. 1-2021]
A. The Village will provide Wednesday morning (except holidays) pickups
each week throughout most of the year when yard work can be done.
The following items are not acceptable and will not be picked up:
(2) Anything over three inches in diameter.
(4) Bags or containers containing animal waste or garbage.
B. The following items are acceptable for pickup, and they must be handled
as follows: these items must not be placed in the street; they must
not cover any portion of the sidewalk; these items cannot weigh more
then 40 pounds per length, bundle, bag, or reusable container.
(1) Nonthorny woody plants below three inches in diameter must be cut
into lengths no longer than six feet and laid down curbside all in
one direction to facilitate pickup.
(2) Nonthorny woody plants two feet in length or smaller must either
be tied in bundles no longer than two feet or put into recyclable
bags/reusable containers.
(3) Thorny plant matter below three inches in diameter must be cut up
and tied into bundles no longer than two feet or put into recyclable
bags/reusable containers.

The Village is working towards creating a composting area for
those wastes which are able to be composted. Therefore, it is important
that waste is handled correctly and not mixed.
In the interest of keeping Unadilla looking good, it is requested
that this waste not be placed at curbside until near pickup time.
It is also requested that these materials be placed out as early as
possible on pickup days so that none is missed on that particular
day. To prevent some from abusing the privilege of this service, the
Village of Unadilla reserves the right to limit quantities.
Copies of the new waste collection policy will be included with
the August water billing and will also be sent to the newspapers as
new items.
