An Arts, Cultural and Heritage Commission is hereby created
pursuant to the authority granted to the City under N.J.S.A. 40:48-2,
N.J.S.A. 40:69A-40 et seq., and in furtherance of the authority granted
pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40:10A-1 et seq.
The purpose of the Commission shall be to:
A. Act as an advisory body to the Mayor and City Council on the provision
of quality arts programming and services throughout the City, and
the promotion and connection of visual, performing and literary artists,
and arts organizations;
B. Assist the City in programming, public art, and artist services,
inclusive of youth programs and community events, with the objective
of bringing together the arts and the community;
C. Work with the Mayor, City Council, and pertinent stakeholders to
build, promote, coordinate and develop a creative, diverse, and artist-friendly
community that serves all residents;
D. Consider, study and recommend plans for the development of City-wide
arts, cultural, and history programs;
E. Investigate possibilities of obtaining grants to aid programs and
to make recommendations on available resources to the Mayor and City
Council;
F. Advise the Mayor, City Council, and the local historian concerning
matters of cultural and historical significance to the City of Camden;
G. Render assistance to the local historian, prepare reports and recommendations
concerning historical and cultural matters and participate in the
planning of celebrations involving historical or cultural themes;
and
H. Serve as liaisons for the Commission in the respective arts, cultural,
and historical communities. These members will create and serve on
subcommittees from time to time as agreed upon by the Commission members.
Members of the Commission may be removed for nonperformance
or neglect of duties or for other good cause by the Mayor, with the
concurrence of the majority of City Council.
