The Select Board shall have full authority as agents of the Town to institute, prosecute and compromise suits in the name of the Town, and to appear, defend and compromise suits brought against the Town, and to appear in proceedings before any tribunal, unless it is otherwise specially voted by the Town.

The Select Board may appoint a Town Counsel, who shall at all times furnish legal advice to any officer of the Town through the Select Board, who may require his opinion upon any subject concerning the duties incumbent upon such officers by virtue of their office. He shall, whenever his services are required, appear in the prosecution or defense of suits and actions in which the Town is a party, and appear at any and all hearings in behalf of the Town. The Select Board shall have full authority to employ special or additional counsel, if necessity arises.
Whenever it shall be necessary to execute any deed conveying land or any other instrument required to carry into effect any vote of the Town, the same shall be executed by the Treasurer unless the Town shall otherwise vote.
