The purpose of this article is to establish the qualifications
and examination procedures, etc., for filling vacancies at the fire-medic
level in the Rescue Department.

A. The following are the minimum qualifications for applicants for appointment
to the Rescue Department:
(1) AEMT cardiac or paramedic as recognized by the RIDOH.
(3) Certificate of successful completion of a PPA or CPAT not more than
12 months old at the time of application submission or appointment.
(4) A passing score on the State of Rhode Island written exam.
(5) Valid state driver's license.
(6) High school diploma or GED.
B. Upon appointment, must serve a one-year probationary period.
C. Candidates passing the qualifications set forth in the preceding
subsection will be given an oral examination:
(1) The oral examination will be given by the Chief of Rescue Services
of the Town in a manner prescribed by him with the presence at such
oral examination of at least one member of the Personnel Board.
D. A rating of a candidate will be made on the basis of points scored,
with the following weights to apply:
(1) Basic requirements, including physical. Maximum points allowed: 10.
Responsibility for scoring: Chief of Rescue Services.
(2) Written examination. Maximum points allowed: 45. Responsibility for
scoring: Personnel Board.
(3) Oral examination. Maximum points allowed: 45. Responsibility for
scoring: Chief of Rescue Services.
(4) Minimum acceptable score to qualify: 70.

A. Vacancies will be advertised in at least one local newspaper no less
than 15 days prior to the closing date for application.
B. The Personnel Board or designee will prepare and place all such notices.

Within five days of the completion of the tests by the candidates,
the Board will notify the Town Administrator and Chief of Rescue Services
of the final standings of the applicants based on the total points
scored.
