The existing Police Department is hereby recognized and reestablished in and for the Borough of Palmerton. The Chief of Police shall be the chief executive of the Police Department. He/she shall, under the direction of the Mayor, be in charge of the police force and have supervision over its members in the exercise of their powers, duties and authority.

Subordinate to the Chief of Police, in the Police Department, the following classification is hereby established: patrolman. The number of persons to serve in such classification, on a full-time or a part-time basis, and the compensation of each shall be as determined by the Borough Council from time to time.

Nothing herein contained shall affect the authority of the Chief of Police to nominate auxiliary policemen, who shall be called to active duty by the Mayor during a period of emergency.
