There is hereby established by and within the Borough of Ridgefield
a Local Assistance Board as required by N.J.S.A. 44:8-115 et seq. The Board
shall be made up of five members, at least one of whom shall be a woman, which
members shall be appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the
Council to serve for terms of four years each. The terms of such members shall
run from the first day of January of the calendar year in which the member
is appointed until the term of each member shall expire and his successor
shall be appointed and shall qualify. Vacancies in the composition of the
Board shall be filled for the unexpired terms only.
The Board shall organize annually, and shall select a Chairman and Secretary
from among its members. The Local Assistance Board shall meet as often as
is necessary, but no less than once every three months.
The Mayor and Council of the Borough of Ridgefield shall determine staffing
levels for the Borough’s Welfare Department for the purpose of administering
public assistance pursuant to the “Work First New Jersey General Public
Assistance Act,” (N.J.S.A. 44:8-107 et seq.), and the Mayor and Council
shall further appoint and/or hire such other employees including, but not
limited to, assistants, clerks, investigators and nurses, as the Mayor and
Council shall determine are necessary to properly administer public assistance
by and within the Borough.
The Mayor and Council hereby determines and establishes the position
of Assistant Welfare Director, which shall be filled by the Borough’s
Health Officer, which assistant shall assist the Welfare Director in the Welfare
Director’s endeavors pursuant to ordinance and statute, and which assistant
shall serve as a liaison between the Welfare Director, the Local Assistance
Board and the Mayor and Council.
